About Department

The Department of Botany is imparting education to B.Sc. students since 1970 and M.Sc. course started in 2010. Dr Ashok K Srivastava (Senior) was founder Head, followed by Dr. K. M Lal, Dr. Ashok K Srivastava (Junior),  Dr. S. K Prabhuji, Prof. Sahil Pande and Prof Awanish.

Biotechnology and Molecular Biology Centre is a sister unit of the Department of Botany which is actively involved in imparting practical training and various research activities.

At present Department has five Grant-in-aid teachers and four Teachers under self-finance scheme, one teacher under management scheme.

Department of Botany has highly motivated and committed teachers for teaching students and they are actively involved in research work also.

Teachers are imparting education about conservation of local flora and environment consciousness amongst students.

Projects run by Department

Activities

  1. A project entitled – “Studies on some lower fungi occurring in certain soils of Gorakhpur (India)”, sanctioned by UGC, New Delhi under Minor Research Project.(2008 – 2011).

  2. A project entitled – “Identification and characterization of Phytoplasma diseases of Brijal and their spread in nature” under Women Scientist Programme (WOS-A) of Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi (2011 – 2014).

  3. A project entitled –“Enhancing Livelihood Resilience to Climate change and Buffering Floods in Gorakhpur city” under Asian Cities for climate change Resilience Network (ACCCRN) in collaboration with GEAG and supported by The Rockefeller foundation.(2012-2014).

Workshop

Department had Organized a Workshop on “Foldscope: A Pocket Microscope”. October 18, 2019 .

Teacher’sof Department are dedicated in improving weaker students by Teacher acting as Tutor by adopting students for there over all development. Faculty members are using ICT tools for better understanding of topic by students. Students are encouraged to give presentation on topic allotted to them from their course to make them confident to express themselves. Every year students of Post graduate course visit nearby jungles and water bodies for collection of flora and diseased plants. Department motivates it’s all student to be sensitive towards their environment by showing short films and motivating them to segregate biodegradable and nonbiodegradable wasteand also aware their family and surroundings about it. We encourage our students for plantation and adopting that plant and also for conservation of local flora and rare varieties.
